The atmosphere of Christmas has become more and more thick, and this is the first encounter with such a lively scene, an atmosphere of life. At the square in my hometown, there would also be some of these temporary entertainment projects, which is the children’s favorite. At the entrance to the commercial center, the glittering decorations are really fantastic.
It is still two weeks before I leave Singapore and return to China. I miss my family and friends in China very much, but I still miss my life in Singapore. In these three months, I have been to the Singapore art museum and the museum of science and technology, and have seen many wonderful exhibitions. I ate a lot of good food and experienced a very diverse cultural environment. I watched many movies and went to many interesting shops. But the most important thing is that I have learned a lot of knowledge about technology and culture. I have improved my English ability and made many interesting friends at the same time.
This experience is very special and unforgettable for me. I will definitely come back to this land again!
This week, the team of our entrepreneurship course started the stage of crowdfunding, and I am full of expectations for the development of this project in the future. At the same time, the score of my second essay in history class came out. The score of my first essay was very low, but the students and teachers of this course helped me a lot. Therefore, the score of my second essay reached my ideal level. In this course, I learned how to write an English paper and how to write a history paper. I feel very happy to learn this history course, and I also want to thank my professor, Dr. Pang, who has taught me a lot about history and the way to see the world.
We have finished our Expressive Cleaning Robot project and also finished the paper. I feel it is great honor to cooperate with my two kind team members. They are so nice and helpful. Also, it is a good opportunity for me to practice English, because before I was not confident to speak and also felt difficult to understand what others were talking about.
In addition, making the robot is really interesting. I can well remember how we took apart iRoomba, the cleaning robot and install our Led strips on it.
Thanks to the help of my team members, we finished the journal paper!
During the exchange period, I participated in an Iurop project. This project is about designing games which can help elderly complete rehabilitation.
At first I was very afraid that I could not finish it, because I had never touched the raspberry pi and python. It required me to finish the code in a zero basis. Thus I spent lots of time studying the relative knowledge and going through some cases. After several weeks I found I could understand mainly part of the code. It really made me happy and be confident to finish the remain project.
The process of learning new things is quite hard but the consequence is worth anything!

Record SUTD’s canteen. Although there are not many kinds in this canteen, there is the favorite chicken, so every time I go to eat it, I am very happy. At the same time, the canteen provides different national dishes, which gives me more opportunities to taste the delicious food of different countries. Although I have eaten in the canteen many times, next time, I will still walk in and order a baked chicken wonton noodles!
The visit to the Singapore zoo was fantastic! The Singapore zoo is one of the best zoos around the world which is well known for its immersive experience. And I had a great time observing all the wonderful creatures closely and see how they act naturally.
I also explored how the zoo creates such immersive atmosphere and how the zoo educates people as well as protect the animals.
In the zoo, there are many signs to remind people do not feed the animals or flash them with phones etc. And there are staffs walk around to supervise tourists. And the tourist coach introduces the animal to people. Also the shows are more meant for educate people rather than entertain people.
Through different ways of isolate people from animals, the zoo brings people closer to the animals. For example, there is a waterway beside the pedestrian where pelicans can swim in, then across the waterway there’s an island where monkeys can live freely. The pelicans can either swim in the water or climb up to the pathway but the monkeys will only be restrict to the island. In this way, there’s no need to use artificial isolator to cage the animals.
Hopefully I can visit the zoo again!
After studying in SUTD for more than one month, I gradually fit in the teaching system here. There are some differences between studying in ZJU and studying in SUTD in terms of the major Architecture.
When I first started to take courses, I struggled a lot with the software. Because everyone here uses rhino as modeling tool and everyone uses grasshopper. I knew little about rhino and grasshopper then. So I spent a lot of time to solve the technical problems.
There’s a digital and parametric design atmosphere in SUTD. Many people try to use curves which is relatively hard to begin with. And you better have a reason for every step you take in developing the project.
The project starts with a mapping exercise followed by the building massing, then a smaller site and unit designs. This gives us a more rigorous way of approaching a project.
We are about to leave Singapore and exams are also on the road. One thing very impressive is that when we are studying at the library, students came to us and give us snacks and said good luck with your exams! I felt warm and happy. The snacks were delicious, and also lighted up a happy day. I think SUTD students and faculties are very nice and friendly.
This weekend, I went to the art science museum to see the exhibition: the Future World.
It’s a futuristic world of high-tech interactive artworks, where the art meets science.
The first part is Nature, the gallery uses both art and science to bring you to a nature, make you be a part of nature and interact with the Nature. Standing on the floor, the water will go around you and flowers will grow from your foot, which is fantastic and beautiful.
The second part is Town. Everyone can draw a car or a house and get it scanned, and you can see the house or the car you drew show on the screen in a short time. And also, another gallery that surprises me was the space, which shows a digital universe by the various lights.
Seeing the show, I am not only fascinated by the scenery, but also interested in the technology that can make people interact with the technology, which may truly become the life we will have in the future.
