My usual place of lodging was the Anglican House. The environment here is very comfortable, downstairs there is a small lawn to chat and read. Various infrastructure is also very convenient, air conditioning, washing machines and so on. But in general, because of the distance from the school, the transportation is not convenient, but still like to live here!
This project allowed me to learn more about Singapore from the ignorance of Singapore. I not only learned about the customs of Singapore, but also the social situation here, the government’s policies and the status quo of many industries. I feel very honored to be involved in this project.
In the entrepreneurship course, in addition to thinking about the feasibility of the project in Singapore, we also considered the feasibility of the project in China. We find that China is a huge market and worthy of further exploration. I also became a very good friend with my team members in this class. They told me a lot of behavioral habits that local Singaporeans know.
I think that in the Internet field, Singapore and China can carry out more technical and hardware cooperation to jointly promote the development of the industry.
In our Entrepreneurship class, we designed an App. But unlike what we have done in past design projects, now we are trying to make a start-up and behave like entrepreneurs. I learnt what is MVP, how to develop customers as well as how to reach out to the investment, market, using ads, our website and videos.
Actually we felt disappointed when we knew that only eight people backed our App on Kickstarter. But Prof. told us that “you are learners, you are not businessmen. You never have real customers in your past design projects, but in this course, you have eight customers. It is a milestone! Only businessmen should be discouraged about eight people, but you are learners, you should be encouraged. Because it is the first time that you get real customers!”
I was greatly inspired by his words. Instead of getting discouraged from small customer database, we should be optimistic and learn from this valuable experience. Big things always start small.
I made an appointment with my classmates to go to SUTD’s swimming pool. The first time we went, we both didn’t know how to operate, so we took swimming pants, goggles, went to the pool. Very simple, we came to the pool. There were not many people at the scene. Some children were learning to swim. But it was so comfortable that we swam around a few times and then left.
The first time I heard about Night Safari was on the English book in the primary school: Night Safari is the first nocturnal wildlife park in the world. This weekend, I finally got a chance to go to this place that I had been looking forward to for a long time.
The normal way of sightseeing in night safari was to sit on a little train and explore the habitats of different animals as the train goes. You can can see the animals walking pass you or some of them had already fall asleep, which also helps me learn more about the different animals. The darkness visiting environment provides an opportunity to get closer to animals.
After the tour on train, I joined a great show provided by some little and creatures. They are smart and interact with people friendly.
The thing that surprised me most is an education part in the end of the show. Some little birds tried to classify different types of garbage and put them into the corresponding garbage bins, which can play a significant role in the process of education, especially to the children.
As I stay in Singapore longer and longer, I also know more and more about Singapore.
Recently I heard something about Singapore government’s attitude towards house. The problem of exorbitant housing price has been the focus of every country. Japan’s bubble economy in the nineties of the 20th century began with house prices. America’s economic crisis in 2008 is also about house prices. The only countries in the world not suffered from overheating house prices are Singapore and Germany.
Now I understand why Singapore can make it. The government of Singapore has basically made housing a public responsibility. Singapore is a market economy country, but the development and construction of housing is not completely led by the market, but the government. The government takes the lead in the development and construction of HDB, which are implemented by the housing development bureau. Also, Singapore implements a virtuous cycle of public accumulation fund system and housing public accumulation fund security system. And using family income level as a basis, implement the reasonable allocation and sale policy of public housing.
The attitude Singapore government toward housing show their humanistic care to its citizens. In this regard I think China should learn from Singapore and care more about its people.
Gardens by the Bay is a nature park in the Central Region of Singapore. We went to the garden by the bay in the late afternoon, so when we enter into the cloud forest, it was almost dark. The temperature in the cloud forest is lower than outside for the typical plants to grow. There is a waterfall inside and skyway is surrounded by wreathing mist. At the end of the tour in the cloud forest, there are galleries to raise environmental awareness.
At night, we went to see the light show. I really enjoyed the music adjusted to the light show lying on the ground. The light feast really deserves a second visit!
For the sake of having a lesson of structure, I have lots of chances to get to know many equipments and materials.
In the class, apart from learning basic knowledge, we have done lots of experiments. A big machine can test the maximum pressure to keep the material be not broken. The students here told me that hands-on ability is of great importance to their pillar. The experiment and the using of some complex machines is common in their daily life.
In zju we don’t have much access to get touch with these machines, so we appeared very excited and curious. Some materials will show special attribute in their broken parts, which really surprised me. During the studying process here, my hands-on ability seems to have improved a lot.

Red Dot Museum is actually a kind of art shop. It was completely an incident why I got there. It was because me and my friend want to go visit gardens by the bay, but we had to get our tickets at Red Dot.
What interested me most in Red Dot is a group of delicate concrete house models. As a student major in architecture, I had tried making concrete models myself. But my concrete works are rougher. So I was inspired to do a better model when I return my host school.
The beauty of the model there is that, it is a solid volume, without any other materials in it.
Thanks to my pillar, I get chances to have great views at the beauty of sky at dawn. Every time when the first red glow rises up, the opening window in my dorm is always ready to remind me that it’s worthy to see. Those amazing colors change as the sky lights up which can always refresh me.
At dawn, everything is quiet and you can enjoy the short slot as you can suppose yourself to be isolated from all the trifles and crowds, and be free and be yourself within tranquility of dawn. That’s what I really like to do.
But what if you are hungry, don’t worry, snacks and bento are always available. Honestly speaking, vending machines is very common, but machines that sell heated pizzas and boxed lunches are quite interesting and helpful. What’s more, not only hot, accessible, but delicious! If only we have similar machines in the hostel at my home university.
