杨珺杰 Yang junjie- rest week Ⅳ

On the last day of the rest week, we chose the Kuala Lumpur City Tour. We traveled together early in the morning, starting from the twin towers and walking along the central square. Along the way, we saw many buildings with Malaysian characteristics, tasted a lot of delicious snacks, and participated in many interesting local activities. We also went to the lively night market in the evening to experience the most authentic night in Malaysia.

This wonderful night also ended the perfect period for our wonderful journey.

On the second day of the tour in Semporna, we went to the second famous island. Instead of taking a yacht, we chose to experience a speedboat. This is a completely different experience. The speedboat travels very fast. It’s amazing how the waves go! So exciting! So funny! Soon we arrived at the second island, which is also very beautiful. There are many beautiful small houses on the island and various beautiful flower decorations. Everyone can’t wait to take photos. Similarly, we snorkeled in the afternoon and saw a big turtle! We swim with it, it’s a really wonderful experience!

In the evening we reluctantly left Semporna to prepare for the last stop of our rest week!

杨珺杰 Yang junjie- rest week Ⅲ

On the first day of the official tour of Semporna, we took a yacht to a nearby island under the guidance of a local guide. In the early morning, we set off in nice clothes! On the yacht, we were eating snacks and looking at the beautiful sea view, it was so cozy! The tour guide also organized a lot of interesting mini-games, and soon we reached the first island, which was really beautiful!

The sea water is very clear, many beautiful marine animals can be seen, the sand is thin and soft, and it is very comfortable to step on it with bare feet. We took a lot of beautiful photos together. In the afternoon, under the leadership of the coach, we went to the sea for snorkeling and saw a lot of creatures on the sea floor. This experience was really wonderful. One day passed without knowing it. Everyone had a great time and laughed all the way Return to the hotel and rest early for the next day.

杨珺杰 Yang junjie- rest week Ⅱ

On the second day of the rest week, we set off from Kuala Lumpur to Semporna, where there are wonderful beaches and a mysterious underwater world. We went to the airport early in the morning and spent a long day. We finally reached the local area of Semporna in the evening. Everyone was tired and hungry.

After a short rest, we went to the dock in Semporna, where we could see the fishermen who had been busy for a day returning to the port by fishing boat. It was very lively and very interesting. We found a local seafood restaurant and tasted the special Malaysian seafood cuisine. It was so delicious! Eating delicious seafood in the breezy sea breeze, the fatigue of the day is eliminated!

杨珺杰 Yang junjie-Rest week Ⅰ

During the rest week in mid-October, my friends and I decided to visit Malaysia. We booked the hotel and flight tickets two weeks in advance and waited for the rest week to arrive. On the first day, we went to Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. We lived next to the famous twin towers in Kuala Lumpur. On the balcony of the hotel, we can see the whole picture of the twin towers, and we can also overlook the city view of Kuala Lumpur. The scenery is very beautiful both during the day and at night!

That night, we were cooking and playing games at the place where we lived together. We ate the long-awaited food in our hometown. It was wonderful to make food by ourselves This is a great start!IMG_1275.JPGIMG_1304.JPGIMG_1309.JPG

杨珺杰 Yang junjie- Exploration on the weekend Ⅲ

On the third weekend of my own travel in Singapore, my friends and I went to the Singapore Zoo, which happened to be my 21st birthday, and everyone went out to celebrate my birthday. The zoo is relatively far from the school. We took a taxi and the journey took about an hour and a half, but we chatted and watched the scenery along the way.

At the destination, we walked into the zoo with excitement, which was wonderful. There are many animals that we have never seen before. They are free to contact us closely. We also watch interesting dolphin shows, take photos with gorillas, watch kangaroos eat, and feed giraffe leaves. Finally my friends bought a big cake to celebrate my birthday. This is an unforgettable day!IMG_1089.JPGIMG_1111.JPGIMG_1103.JPG

曹家扬 Cao Jiayang – Farewell to SUTD

IMG_4461.jpg

Now there is only half of a month left before we leave SUTD and leave Singapore. Since September, although it is not a long period when we stay here living and studying, but we do have deep love to it, SUTD.

I love the small but neat room. From the window I can see the beautiful Chinese ancient buildings. And I like to stand in the corridor in the night, with breezy wind flowing to my face and bringing coolness and calmness. I also like my neighbors. They invited me to join the decoration event and would put snacks in the Christmas sock on my door.

I love the food court, too. It offers us cheap and delicious food, and sometimes serves as our group discussion area. In our food court, you can enjoy foods from different regions without traveling everywhere. And the staff are quite kind that you may even be friends after a term.

Moreover, I love the library. It is so convenient to go to library under the roof. That means even if it’s raining heavily, you don’t need to bring your umbrella. And it is so surprising for me that there are even beanbags in library! And the seats are sufficient, with some of them even equipped with computers. That’s what I can’t imagine in my home university.

Last but not least, I love people here so much. The professors are always kind and patient to students. And classmates are nice and easy-going.

All these beautiful memories compose my experience in SUTD. I am sad to say goodbye to it.

杨珺杰 Yang junjie- Exploration on the weekend Ⅱ

On my second independent event weekend in Singapore, we got tickets to the Singapore F1 event with the help of the TF consortium. This is the first time I watched the F1 event on the spot and I was very excited. Early in the morning I was ready to go out with my friends. We chose to take a bus and play while walking to experience the scenery of Singapore along the way. Soon the long-awaited evening is coming. We are led by the organizers into the venue of the race. As soon as we enter, we are infected by the strong racing atmosphere. Everyone is drinking beer, singing, and many girls are well dressed Fantastic!

The race officially started at more than eight in the evening, and the car almost whistled past my eyes, which was more exciting than watching on TV! I quickly integrated into the atmosphere of the scene. This is a wonderful day! thank!

杨珺杰 Yang junjie-Exploration on the weekend Ⅰ

On the first weekend of my own travel since I came to Singapore, I went to the center of Singapore, where there is a world-renowned hotel-Golden Sands Hotel. The sight of the real thing is more shocking than the photo. It is opposite to it It is Singapore’s famous Ferris wheel. In the evening, the sunset light on the Ferris wheel makes it look like a sunset on the seashore. It is very beautiful. At night, the Ferris wheel will change all kinds of wonderful lights. But due to lack of time, I regret not being able to board the Ferris wheel to watch the beautiful night view of Singapore.

However, I went to Gardens by the Bay, where the plants and buildings are very beautiful, very local characteristics of Singapore, it is very refreshing. On the same day, I also encountered a marathon event. Everyone dressed up as Batman. There were many people involved, men and women, young and old, and their happiness infected me, making my journey more fun.

曹家扬 Cao Jiayang – What I wanted to find and what I do find

Before coming to Singapore, I had a strong willingness to find out something on my major and myself.

First was the understanding of design. In my home university, we refer design more to an art concept. It is a major on visual and feeling. But in Singapore, although many pillars are named with design, the meaning to that is quite different. It is more similar to arrangement. For example, if you are in ISTD, your design mission is to well arrange a project, from its code to its database as well as user interface. Sometimes art is considered little in the process. One of my profs once said UI designer was strongly needed in current society. It shows that the computer science not only helps complete users’ objects, but also is used to fulfill uses’ feelings. And in our group work in SUTD, I am in charge of UI design of our project. I used to think I learned little in my university, but in our group work I started to feel that I could think of problems from the perspective of a designer, I could find different views with others. Anyway the education I got in my home university has a vogue but deep influence on me.

Besides, I was hesitating what to do in the future, keeping studying for master in China or going abroad. So I used this experience in Singapore as a trial for figuring out whether I could overcome studying overseas. Although learned a lot and made many progress here, I still find I am not suitable for studying abroad. Maybe this experience will help me and give instruction to my choice in the future. That’s what valuable indeed.
