王德容,Wang Derong-Dinner with teammate

Lastweek, the whole team of a class went to our local teammate’s familly for dinner. This was the first time I went to a local’s house, his families were very enthusiastic to us.

Cause that the topic our team chose was about frozen meat, so that most of the dishes are meat. There were sesame oil chicken, roast chicken, fried fish and fried shrimp. All of them were very delicious.

During the lunch, we talked a lot about life in Singapore. They recommend many famous local food and deserved attractions to us, we also told them some great chinese food. Many of his family could speak Chinese, so it was not difficult for us to understand each other.

It was really a good nigh!

曹家扬 Cao Jiayang – Christmas is coming!

The week before last week, students living on the 5th floor of Block59 had an interesting event: decorating the 5th floor in Christmas style!

Some used green and yellow decorative ribbons to make a Christmas tree with a big bow on the top. Some used colorful paper tapes to decorate the boxes near our doors as a gift box, and put beautiful paper flower on the cross. And some cut red and green clothes  into the shape of Christmas socks and put cute items on it, then sticked those socks to everyone’s door.

After several night’s hard work, now our floor is filled with Christmas atmosphere! And we won the first prize in the housing decoration competition.

Now Christmas is coming. What will a tropical Christmas be like?

The last stop was the Night Safari, which we have learned on the English book in middle school.

Owing to the bad light environment there, I didn’t take many successful photos for memory.:(

Zoo is too common for everyone, but exploring at zoo at night will be a different experience. We met so many animals moving at night on the tram, although I didn’t remember them. And there was a show where you could see cute animals and their special skills, such as the little coati helping with classifying trash, and beautiful birds flying around among audience and back to its owner.

In one word, don’t miss Night Safari if you come to Singapore.

In Singapore where you can’t miss is Sentosa.

It is valuable to buy a ticket for the cable car. So you needn’t bear the long distance to the land and can enjoy the beautiful scenery from the up view.

The first stop was certainly the Universal Studio for sure. There were so many interesting activities with theme of movies published by Universal Studio. The one I like most is Despicable Me, so I bought a lot of unicorns at the goods shop. Apart from the two main roller coasters, there were also other several ones. One activity I used to think is an indoor exploration, so I took it with my mom. But then we found it was actually an indoor roller coaster with swift going down and losing gravity. But I’d like to introduce the activity of Transformers. Although I never watched its movie but I felt the activity exciting and interesting.

After the exciting experience in Universal Studio, then why not have a slow and romantic trip to the beach? There are three beaches in Sentosa where you can reach almost the most southern land of Asia. But make sure you can bear the sharp shells in the sand, otherwise don’t take off your shoes. Standing in the sea, facing the cool wind and watching the sun going down, what a wonderful time!

At last, if you still have energy, shopping at Vivo City will be a good choice!

Then let’s move to the Marina Bay Sands.

It was a wonderful experience to take a trip on boat around Marina Bay Sands. You can enjoyed the surrounding booths, the beautiful Elgin Bridge, the famous Merlion and the sight of gorgeous hotels at the opposite coast (just the sight).

But unfortunately, it suddenly burnt into heavy rain, so we didn’t have the chance to enjoy the sky wheel and garden in the air. Anyway having a drink in Hey Tea was interesting enough as well.:) If OK having a meal in Haidilao Hot Pot would be better.

Continue talking about my and my mom’s exploration in Singapore.

Then we went to Clarke Quay. The colorful decoration on the buildings impressed me a lot. From that I saw and felt Singapore’s energy and passion to life. There are also many delicious food at Clarke Quay. We chose to try the famous Songfa Bak-Kut-Teh. Its taste did go beyond my imagination (my imagination was limited by the Bak-Kut-Teh in Food Court in SUTD lol).

We visited the National Gallery of Singapore then and enjoyed a show called If Walls Could Tell there. The forth photo I put was one of its exhibitions, where you could stand on it and felt there was limitlessly deep under yourself, but actually it was just 2 or 3 meters deep and the illusion was caused because of the mirrors below. The most interesting thing for me was a room used to be set for prisoners because the building was once the court of Singapore and prisoners were locked at those back rooms momentarily. Although it was quite old and in bad condition, it left me deep impression for the sense of reality at that time it gave me. I strongly recommend you guys to visit it if you have time. It has many interesting concepts and is quite enough for burying yourself in something. One more thing, it is free open to students~ 🙂

曹家扬 Cao Jiayang – Exploration in Singapore I

During the recess week, I invited my mother to Singapore and we had an interesting exploration around Singapore. Here I’d like to describe my exploration from the view of a foreigner.

The first stop was Chinatown. There were so many restaurants, especially Chinese restaurants, attracting me and my mom a lot. By the way, I really miss food in my homeland, like milk tea, hot pot and BBQ. Also, there were many temples in Chinese and Indian style as well as many believers coming to worship. It was surprising for me to see that Indian believers would take off their shoes before entering the temple. Lots of traditional goods were sold there too.

The second stop was the Istana, the house of president in Singapore. The Istana only opens in five specific days and that day we visited it was one of them fortunately. There were many citizens sitting on the grass, chatting or playing games. Along the road surrounded by trees, we got the main building. It looked like European buildings from the outside. Inside it had a great collection of presents from different countries. We saw potteries from China, textile fabrics from India and other beautiful paintings that I couldn’t remember their givers.

These two stops could be considered as cultural spots in my exploration.

曹家扬 Cao Jiayang – A Visit to Wintech Nano

IMG_4366

Thanks to the professor Jin of the course Business Culture and Entrepreneurship in China, we had a chance to visit the company of Wintech Nano in Singapore.

Unfortunately I didn’t take any photo of the company, so I put a photo of the sea shoot on the way to Wintech instead.

Wintech Nano is a Singaporean company using advanced devices of analysis and professional experts and technique to provide one-stop material analysis and failure analysis service and solutions for companies.

From the introduction of their manager, I learned that one reason for Wintech’s success is their excellent technique, which guarantee their status and unsubstitutability in the nano industry. Another reason is that they have a far sight to spread their business in larger market. So they set up a new industrial base in Suzhou, China in 2012, for Suzhou has a beneficial  policy for such technical start-up business and there is a much larger market in China.

Because of this field visit, I have new opinions in business.

曹家扬 Cao Jiayang – The Leaders Forum in NUS

It was a meaningful day – Oct 17. We participated in the great event named TF LEaRN 2019 Young Asian Leaders Forum at NUS.

Here gathered hundreds of students from different Asian universities. I was quite nervous at first, for such a great scale of participants with everyone dressing formally and gorgeous decorations of the venue. Also, I thought leader was a word having no matter with me.

However, in the forum I started to think differently of the word, leader.

The first part was some guests giving lectures to the program. They mentioned why to organize such a forum, what should a leader be like. And then several members shared their experience as a “leader” in many social works. What impressed me most was the story that they went to poor regions lack of good education to help them. It evoked me of what properties a leader should have. Admittedly, this project was not as great as what I used to think a leader’s job, but isn’t it hard but meaningful? It also contributed a lot to the society. Leader not only includes those at the prior status in an organization or company, but also who having a strong faith in something and together with mates struggling on it. Finally exchange students from each university introduces their lives in Singapore or aboard, and I did have the same feeling as them.

What a valuable day!IMG_3190

黄昭旖, Huang Zhaoyi, Happy Formula

21th September

We known about what Happy Formula is – is a group that working hard to make everyone happy, especially who in need. Then we learned three games for the other day’s ice breaking. The volunteer there was really kind and nice. The games was simple but fun indeed.

It’s such a pity I couldn’t make it to the Blossom Home Refresh. Actually I am really looking forward to painting and cleaning up households of the pioneer generation.
