MWH Flag Day was held on the 5th of October 2019. For this CIP event, we went to Tampines MRT station and helped raise funds for the youth-at-risk. Each of us was given a tin can and we would ask the passers-by to kindly do some donations. I expected to meet with a lot of challenges on this day, which I did, but I managed to cope with most of them in the end.
The biggest difficulty we met with, of course, was to persuade strangers into making a donation. Before the event starts, I pictured being turned down by strangers, being rolled eyes at, etc. None of these did happen at the end of the day. I took some time to fully memorize the information about the charity home and drafted a small piece of “opening speech” on my phone.

This CIP event has benefited me in many ways. I was really surprised by people’s enthusiasm to participate in charity events. Some donors set themselves as good examples by teaching their kids to donate, others would read thoroughly the material we provided and make the decision to donate with discretion. Among all of the donors, there’s this particular uncle I remember. During the session, I teamed up with another guy from Taiwan. The uncle dropped by 3 times, each time making a donation into both of our tin cans. The last time he dropped by he even brought two cups of juice he just bought in a stall. Though we declined his offer, he still gently insisted that we take it, because he thought that we were doing great work.
