李想 Li Xiang-Ubin

I have always liked the sea very much. I heard that Ubin is a very beautiful island located on the beach, so I visited it  with my friends! After we arrived at the island by boat, we borrowed a bicycle and explored the island. The scenery on the island was really beautiful, especially the flowers in full bloom. I also found a hermit crab at the beach~  Singapore is very committed to ecological protection and is truly worthy of the reputation of the garden city.

李想 Li Xiang-Mid-Autumn Festival

The Mid-Autumn Festival in Singapore has a very strong atmosphere, and the lanterns lit up in the drunken water a few weeks ago. In the evening, we came to the Marina Bay to watch performances, Tai Chi, and ethnic dances. These performances show the Chinese respect for traditional culture. After returning to the dormitory, I did not expect the students here to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. There are Moon cakes and fruits. Everyone sang together to make games, and we had an unforgettable Mid-Autumn Festival for our students in Singapore.

李想 Li Xiang-HWA Flag Day

We gathered in the early morning, everyone took a can, and we pushed the old man around. I thought that because we didn’t prepare, there was only one jar, and everyone would not want to donate, or would not believe us. Unexpectedly, everyone is very enthusiastic, especially the mothers and the elderly with many children. In the afternoon, we are full of harvest and are moved by their love.

李想 Li Xiang-YEAH Programme

The first time I came to TWCC  I was a little nervous at first. I was worried that I wouldn’t know what to say. However, these children are very cute. Everyone is very lively. We were integrated soon.  I played badminton with these children and I was very happy to play rugby, which made me feel very fulfilled. When I finally left, the management asked us how we felt. I said: I love these cute children.

李想 Li Xiang-Hello Singapore

When we first came to Singapore, we went to many places, Chinatown, Marina Bay, and Mall. The first impression that Singapore gave me was that the scenery was beautiful and the building was magnificent. The Sands Hotel in Marina Bay was very stylish and I met many friends along the way. Everyone from different countries has different backgrounds, some from Switzerland and some from South Korea. It is an unforgettable week for everyone to have a good time together.

朱若雪,ZhuRuoxue-Flag Day 6

This week we participate in Flag Day organised by the Handicaps Welfare Association. The Handicaps Welfare Association is a non-profit charitable organisation that serves people with physical disabilities. We asked for donations for the disabled people at Tampines Centre. I together with other two students formed a group. At the beginning, I was a little worried that it maybe quite awkward if people refuse to give donation. But on the contrary, in the process I was very surprised that Singaporeans are very friendly and warm hearted when it comes to asking for donations. Many of them even went out of their way to give us donations. I was also impressed that there is a mutual level of trust allowing Singaporeans to build positive relationship with each other. In a word, today I felt the great care and trust among people which was quite touching.

朱若雪,ZhuRuoxue-Community service yeah program

This week is the last week we participate in the CIP community service. Yeah TWCC aims to assist youths in development of necessary life skills, and develop capabilities crucial for character development. Kids comes to the Tampines West Community Club after school, they do homework, have fun playing sports such as badminton and floorball together. The club offer them to spend time safely under the guardianship of tutors and mentors (volunteers like us) until their parents come to pick them up after work.  Here we play, talk with the kids and helped them with their homework. Many of them are too shy to talk with us at the beginning, some just do not welcome strangers. But gradually, after we spent several times together, they became much more friendly and open-hearted, they are just cute kids with kind nature. Some are even a little naughty. In a word, I like to spend time with them.

朱若雪,ZhuRuoxue-Chinatown

this week I went chinatown with my friend. Chinatown, is one of the famous attractions in Singapore, with its colourful shop-houses and handful of historical attractions, makes a pleasant stroll for visitors like us. The Chinatown MRT Station brought us to the doorstep of Pagoda Street, which is quite convenient . We walked along the street and explored the place, Chinatown offers a lot more than just the restored shops and ethnic places of worship, it’s truly a haven for food lovers. The food street of Chinatown is one of the best places to eat cheap, tasty and authentic local food. There is a wide selection of hawker stalls and shop-house restaurant, encompassing flavours from across Asia. We tasted the local food at the food court inside the Chinatown Ltp. Ordering multiple types of dishes, we shared the food which were all quite delicious. I was still impressed by the grilled devil fish which was a kind of fish I never heard of before.

朱若雪,ZhuRuoxue-Sightseeing in the city

This week I go traveling to different places far away from school. I took the mrt and arrive at the Lavender station, after that, I walked two miles away and arrive at the art museum of Singapore. It’s a very beautiful architecture but was unluckily not opened for exhibition at the time. I talked with the guard of the museum who was a kind old man. He advised me to visit the national museum of Singapore which was quite near just across the street. I thanked him and then went for the direction he pointed for me. In the way, I came across Singapore Management University which was quite a magnificent building covered by green plants. I guess it’s quite convenient for students of SMU to stay at the center of the city, with easy access to various public facilities like museums. I went sightseeing in the national museum. It was really a brilliant feast of eyes and spirits.

朱若雪,ZhuRuoxue-New life start

The second week I start to select courses and prepare to new semester studying. There were some systematic wrong with my class schedule. Thanks to the teachers helping me dealing with it and finally I successfully selected my preferred courses. The DBS card thing also went on well. I visited four different bank branches to finally get the card. Only that the lessons delivered completely in English were a little difficult for me to fully understand at the beginning, but I tried hard to catch up with the instructor and I thought my English can be improved gradually during the progress. I really appreciated the chance of being completely involved in English-taught lesson, we barely had chance to take such class back in China. In addition, I found the class here give more chance to students discussing our opinions and doing handwork, rather than the instructor do all the talking.
