吴琼 WuQiong – Attending the TFI Youth forum

To prepare for TFI Youth Forum, we rehearsaled for two days before the forum day. My job is to be VIP ushers, waiting beside the stage and ushering VIPs at certain times. At first, we could not remember our role in some parts. After several times, we gradually did well and made the rehearsal excellent.

On the forum day, all of us got up early, wearing our prepared clothes. All friends we met at the learning journey were all coming here. As what we did at rehearsals, the forum went well as we planned. Some of my friends came to the stage and shared their experience in singapore. We had the same feeling with them, impressed by their speeches deeply.

It is truly a meaningful event and we benefit a lot.

林巾业 Lin Jinye – Second Day of Dive Trip to Tioman

Today we did two dive into the water, but the transparency is not very good, we didn’t see many animals. The instructor also taught us how to navigate under the water by using the diving compass. Today, end up the two dives, we would be heading back to Singapore.

Last night, we see very beautiful flashes of lightning on the island. It’s a common weather phenomenon to the residents here. While I was really shocked by the gorgeous beauty of it, so I took many pictures of it. I really appreciate the fantastic scenery of the beach, the sunset and the sea.

Diving is really worth trying, I think if I have a chance in the future, I will enjoy much more diving experience.

林巾业 Lin Jinye – Fist Day of Dive Trip to Tioman

I have been thinking of diving before I came to Singapore since I have decided to join in the exchange program. Luckily, I saw the poster the dive club hang out in the elevator, and signed up for it. Before today, We have already taken several theory lessons and a confined pool section at the school’s swimming pool.

we had three dive today, the first dive is 9 meters, the other 2 is 13 meters. we did some exercise in our first dive, and have great fun seeing diverse categories of fishes and marine animals. In my first dive, I all but lost my weights under the water, I luckily held it, narrowly averted a disaster. The most exciting thing is that we saw a big turtle swam beside us and cute clownfishes. I was really shocked that there are so many giant sea cucumbers under the sea, but it felt very soft when touched It.

蔡光锡 Cai Guangxi – Tour to Batam

During our mid-term exam, we have nearly one week to travel. We planned to Batam by ships, which is very close to Singapore.
We have never taken a boat here, so we didn’t know how long we have to arrive in advance. When we come to the departure place, we were informed that we did not print our pass tickets. There were only 10 minutes to check in. We were hurried and then come to find staff members for help. Fortunately, the boat waited for us and we boarded the boat in time.
The sunset and sea breeze were so satisfying, which truly impressed us. The lesson of arriving the departure place early is also made us impressive. We believed that we will never make the same mistake.

叶旎Ye Ni-First swimming in SUTD

At the moment I entered into the pool of SUTD, the staff there asked me whether I can swim or not. They are very responsible about ensuring safety of people who come swimming.

One thing I didn’t expect was that, the pool actually did’t get many visitors. Most of the users were from outside of the campus. They seemed to have certain training. It is reasonable to better utilize the pool when there are no that much need within the campus.

The water was very clean, and I recommend others to come too.

吴柳青 Wu Liuqing- fablab

One of my favorite places in SUTD is  fablab.

There have multiply machines like 3D Printer, laser cutting machine and also have various machine to do handwork.

As a architecture student, we will always make models in different scale both in the process of design and also in the presentation of the program. So the various machines and tools can make a good base to the design process.

Fablab has not only various of machine, but also the experienced staff who will help us and teach us how to use the machines and the tools, in the meantime, guarantee our safety. The rule in fablab is strict, we must wear long pants and covered shoes when entering fablab, which can form a good environment in the lab.

吴柳青Wu Liuqing-learning journey

Today we attend a learning journey held by TFI. In the morning, we are separated into different groups and each group member is from different countries such as Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and so on. It’s a fantastic tour for me to have the discussion with so many people in different cultures, we exchange experiences in our home countries and the ideas why we came Singapore and what we gain in Singapore. I learned a lot about different cultures and the differences between them. At the end of this journey, we exchange the ID of facebook and instagram with others. We made friends and built a network with each other. I hope that we will have more connection with each other and improve the world all together.

徐子珂 Xu Zike – the Learning Hub

Designer Thomas Heatherwick has completed a university building in Singapore made up of 12 towers.

The building was designed as a cluster of tapered towers surrounding an expansive atrium. The idea was to combine learning facilities with social spaces including balconies, gardens and open-air corridors, to encourage as many opportunities for staff and student interactions as possible.

The 12 towers, which each taper inwards towards the base, accommodate a total of 56 oval classrooms. The non-hierarchal round shape – without any corners or obvious fronts or backs – will encourage more collaborative learning.

Balconies extend around the inside of the towers and get larger towards the top of the building, offering views into the atrium. This space is naturally ventilated, allowing air to circulate throughout.

By bringing people and their ideas together, NTU can spark future innovations and new knowledge that increasingly happen at the intersection of disciplines.

吴琼 WuQiong – The learning journey of TFI

At around 7 am, all of us got up because we would participate in a learning journey which is organized by TFI.

In the morning, there is a small forum for all the TFI students in singapore. We got to know lots of friends from other universities like NTU or NUS. Apart from doing some small games, we shared our experience on participating in this programme. Each of us had a happy memory with these multinational friends.

After the forum, we took a bus to an aviation maintenance company. The staff here took us to visit around the company and had a short introduction for us. The history of the company and the spirit of it really impressed us. Although the time of learning is very short, we gained lots of inspirations.
