徐子珂 Xu Zike -Chinatown

As a Chinese, the most important thing which can not been missed is Singapore’s Chinatown.

The origin of the name of Chinatown is that there was no running water at that time. The scene of cattle transporting water is very common in Chinatown.

Today, Chinatown is the most concentrated place for Chinese in Singapore. It has snacks from all over China and is a favorite place for Chinese in Singapore. The night of the Chinatown is shining, a bit like a Chinese temple fair.

Today’s Chinatown is a modern shopping mall. I have had a nice afternoon here.

吴琼 WuQiong – The trip to Sabah

Singapore is near to many Southeast Asian countries, so it is convenient for us to travel around. Since we have three days available at the end of a week, we decided to Sabah in Malaysia for travelling.

Sabah is a seaside city, which is famous for its beautiful beach. On the first night we arrived here, we came to the biggest night market to eat seafood. The Malaysians here are very hospitable and passionable. We tried several kinds of signature food and were shocked by the freshness of food.

In another day, we came to walk on the famous beach to feel the beauty of sunset. Although there are lots of visitors here, we still felt excited for the scenery.

This city is not so modern as Singapore. In the middle of the night, lots of locals would sit on the street and chat for a long time. The difference in the culture really impressed us. Maybe to get the totally different feelings and learn some local culture are the meanings of travelling.

沈楠菲Shen Nanfei-Singapore zoo and Night Safari

When I am still in China, my impression of Singapore comes from its advanced technology and booming economy, but speaking of interesting spots, only night zoo that comes to my mind. I still remember in my high school English textbook there is an article talking about Singapore Night Safari. Night Safari is the first wildlife park built especially to be viewed at night. It is so famous that I must have a try.

Since Singapore Zoo is just located besides Night Safari, we brought the ticket together. But generally speaking, Singapore Zoo is like other normal zoos in other cities. Only the Fragile Forest impressed me most since you are not separated with the animal by those glass wall so you can touch them directly.

For Night Safari, I think it really has lived up to its good reputation. There are two viewing routes. One is small train route and there is narration when you are watching animals. The other is walking route. Walking route is like you are hiking in a mountain and can see many different kinds of animals at the same time.

I found a very strange phenomenon, the reason why I like Night Safari is its unique mode of visit, not the animal itself. Chinese zoos also have many kinds of animals. It is not an strange thing to look at the animals themselves, but to touch them without barrier or to see them at night is really the first time for me.

蔡光锡 Cai Guangxi – Beautiful Island Sabah

The beach in Sabah is really beautiful!

We went to the beach before the night because we wanted to see the sunset. The sunset that day is really awesome which did not disappoint us. I think that going such a beautiful beach with my close friends is a romantic thing and I really cherish these moments.

The sea breeze in Sabah is very comfortable and we have had an unforgettable weekend on this island.

蔡光锡 Cai Guangxi – Seafood in Sabah

During the weekend, we decided to travel to Sabah in Malaysia. The trip truly changed my opinion towards seafood.
Sabah is a city near the sea. The people here are very warm-hearted and kind. We come to a local market to try its famous seafood. Lots of crabs and lobsters appeared in front of our eyes. We ordered our food depends on the recommendations by the shop owner. All the seafood is so fresh and delicious. In the past, I didn’t like eating seafood but now I thought that I may be fall in love with seafood.
The trip to Sabah is a meaningful trip for me. I love it!

徐子珂 Xu Zike – National Museum of Singapore

On this sunny afternoon, I visited the National Museum of Singapore.

Founded in 1887, this museum is the largest and oldest museum in Singapore with more than 120 years of history. However, it reflects the young and innovative spirit of the country.

The museum is divided into the Singapore History Museum and the Singapore Cultural Life Museum. The Singapore History Museum provides an electronic audio video guide to introduce each exhibit. The Singapore Cultural Life Museum has four themes, which are traditional cuisine, fashion trends, photography techniques and film dramas, presenting the lives of Singaporeans in the 20th century.

By visiting this museum, I have a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of Singapore. I hope to experience what the museum told me through my personal experience.

叶旎Ye Ni-Cycling at My Waterway@Punggol

I decided to have a cycling journey at Punggol because it is the selected site of my core studio.

However, it is full of surprise on my way.

The waterway are mainly marked with several interesting bridges. For example, the most popular one is called “adventure bridge”.

People who live nearby have a good chance to do exercise by the river, such as jogging and cycling. And the waterway is also combined with some commercial or entertainment center such as the Oasis mall, the Waterway Point and the Safra.

There are also small food point that the google map doesn’t show.

In conclusion, all the small designs there are cute and inspiring.

林莹Lin Ying – Mid-Autumn Festival Party

Today is the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival in China. I have a physical distance far from my hometown, but my heart is like this round moon, with my loved ones and friends. It’s hypocritical to say that I don’t miss my family in homeland.

Fortunately, the friends of the Chinese Students’ Association who are studying at sutd have held a Mid-Autumn Festival party. We shared the mooncakes together, and we shared the learning experience and the interesting things in life. Thanks to the organizers and other participants, I feel the warmth of home.

This Mid-Autumn Festival party also made me want to share my experience with new friends who are unfamiliar with the environment, which will help them integrate into the new environment more quickly.

吴柳青 Wu Liuqing- CIP service

We do some service in the local community these weeks. We help in an institution to look after children when they are after school. I went there three times in total, every Wednesday for two weeks, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. We help them finish their homework and do some sports with them.

The institution is good for those family where parents works late and don’t have time looking after children when they after school.

In china, there also have the problems. When I was a little kid, my parents always works late and I have to stay in the school for a long time before they came to pick me, lonely and bored. And some parents will let their kids go to some Academic guidance institutions, which will help children do homework, but it’s profitable and always expensive.

The institution here I think is the best way to solve the dilemma where the tution fee is high and parents have no time, which may can be learn by other countries. Tutors there are always patient and kindly. And children can not only do their homework but also do some physical exercise and have snacks. It’s obviously that children there are happy and enjoy spending these period of time being with friends.IMG_3442
