叶旎 Ye Ni -HDB Housing visiting

This day I visit a friend’s apartment at skyville@Dawson.

I’ve learned that in Singapore there are mainly two kinds of housing – one is HDB house, the other is private mansion.

As for HDB house, you can tell there are 3 kinds of it – premier, medium, and economic. And as a well-know housing building and a greenmark-owned apartment, the skyville belongs to the first category.

I found it quite different from Chinese apartments that the HDB apartments all don’t have boundary to prevent non-residents( While non-HDB houses have it).

The ventilation in the unit is quite good thanks to the considerate design. What’s more, gardens in the air bring green up to high floors. And some eco-friendly system such as rainwater collection system is applied here.

蔡光锡 Cai Guangxi – Visit the architecture classroom

Because of the class, I met several students of architecture. By chance, I went to their professional classroom, where SUTD architecture students usually study and work.
There I saw a lot of models and prototypes they made. SUTD’s students love to create and are happy to learn the latest knowledge. Many students will come into contact with parametric modeling and apply it to their own architectural works. I am also very interested in this aspect, and we exchanged a lot of experience in design.
I think interdisciplinary cooperation is a very good thing. Industrial design and architecture, they exist in fact to improve human being’s life, so, I am also willing to cooperate with students of architecture, I think it is very necessary and will be very interesting.

沈楠菲Shen Nanfei-Some difference between China and Singapore

As newcomers of Singapore and SUTD, we have to do many preparatory work. During the period I realize lots of difference between China and Singapore.

I take a long time in CIA and moving between different counters to get my Student pass. The experience to open the DBS account is also bad. In china this kind of government or banking service will be more efficient. But maybe it is because we are foreigners so that we are special and need more time.

However, the traffic in Singapore really impresses me. Traffic jam is always a big issue in China, I can remember the tiredness to spend long time blocking on the road or huddled with a group of people in subway. But in Singapore, the public transportation is very convenient and seldom crowded and I can hardly see traffic jam on the road.

林莹LinYing – Volunteer Day

We started our volunteer project. We spend an afternoon with the pupils of the Tampines Club every week to spend their after-school hours.

At first I thought we were more nervous than the children. But even though the children are naughty, their hearts are full of warmth. We accompanied them to play badminton and floor ball, they are obviously much more skilled than us, which reminds us that we should always exercise. The mentor in the club is very good and tells us a lot of attention.

I am very happy to be with this group of children, which also makes me think about whether I have the opportunity to make a different contribution to their growth in the future.

陶一帆 Tao Yifan-Donation for the Handicaps

I spent a day around the MRT station to help raise donation for the handicaps. People passed by and donated naturally. Some people seemed to know how to donate very well. They donated and took a sticker. Some parents educated their children by giving them some money to donate. It felt so warm to have so many people showing a part of kindness of themselves and helping others.

This kind of activities do good for the society and have educational benefits which forms a positive cycle.

It’s easy to feel the small kindness from others through daily life here. People hold doors for you when getting into the classroom. The bus driver says it’s ok when the money in your E-zlink card run out.

Sometimes it’s these kindness from others that makes your day.      :)

吴欣科 Wu Xinke – Donation for the Handicaps

We spent one day helping Handicaps Welfare Association to do fundraising, so that they can better help improve the life of handicaps. I think this is one of the most meaningful experiences in my life.

I stood outside the mall holding a jar, saying:”Donation, for handicaps” from time to time. Every time a kind passerby gave me money, I would give him/her the sticker. I think the sticker is a kind of kindness culture and tradition. In China we don’t have such tangible awards, but I think it is effective in calling on people to help with those disabled. Although it is so small, it is a symbol of kindness, which can influence other people. Virtue and kindness are a social force which is accumulated by the whole society. I appreciated this kind of culture here, and I think this is something China can also learn from Singapore, Taiwan and Hongkong to build a more friendly society.IMG_20181102_161651

徐子珂 Xu Zike – FIA Formula 1 World Championship

The World Formula One Championship is the highest level of the annual series of venue racing competitions. It is the highest level of racing competition in the world today. It is also known as the “World’s Three Major Sports Events” with the Olympic Games and the World Cup.
On September 16, I was fortunate to participate in this competition. Although the f1 event is a long tug-of-war, I can still feel the enthusiasm of the audience. The roar of the engine, the waving flag, the spark of the splash, everything seems so hot.

吴琼 WuQiong – Participating in volunteer activities

This week we participated in many volunteer activities. We got to know the feeling of contributing to the society.

The first is YEAH programme which required us to take care of the kids in a community. The kids are energetic and full of curiosity. The two hour’s accompany is a short but happy moment.

On Saturday, we come to tampines MRT station to get donation for HWA. Because the amount of old people is much less than us, part of us took a can and stood beside the road. We found that the people here are warm-hearted, willing to give some coins to the welfare association. From the early morning to the late afternoon, every one of us gained a heavy can. We felt so happy to make some contribution.

What’s more, we gained a chance to see F1 in singapore. It was such a wonderful night and left us with deep impression.

The experience here is fresh and exciting for me. On this week I felt more familiar with the city, having lots of happy things to memorize.
