Exploring Singapore – Episode 1
When I arrived at the Anglican House, the place where I was going to stay for the next three months, it was almost dawn. I thanked Mel for taking me there and waved goodbye. I wandered in the corridor feeling the cool morning wind. Everything was familiar to me, yet everything was new to me.
The very next few hours, I was passing through buildings after buildings with my friends, exploring the beautiful country. What impressed me most was that Singapore is a multicultural country. The city blends Malay, Chinese, Arab, Indian and English cultures and religions. You can feel it when you are taking MRT and seeing people dressed differently, hearing them speak different languages. By the way it’s meaningful that Singapore dedicates to provide shade for pedestrians. There are corridors that connect bus stop and the MRT station for example, so people do not have to expose to direct sunlight or rain drops.
And you can also feel the multicultural atmosphere through food. Almost every food court has Thai food, Korean food, Japanese food, Chinese dim sum, Indian food, etc. We had chicken rice for dinner, which is a special dish in Singapore.
At night, we watched the beautiful night view from the top of one building. It was really wonderful to see how the city flows and shines at night.
That’s all for the first day!
